Undergraduate

  • All major scales and arpeggios at your chosen tempo
  • Chromatic scale that indicates your full range
  • One etude from the following:
    • Weissenborn 50 Concert Studies
    • Orefici 20 Melodious Studies
    • Milde 25 Studies in Scales and Chords, op 24
  • One solo composition of your choice: include sections that demonstrate both lyrical and technical playing
  • Suggested solo pieces: 
    • Bourdeau: Premiere Solo
    • Brandon: Colored Stones
    • Hailstork: Bassoon Set
    • Siqueira: Three Études for Bassoon and Piano
    • Telemann: Sonata in F minor

Graduate

  • All major and minor scales and arpeggios
  • Chromatic scale that indicates your full range
  • One Milde Concert Study of choice
  • 2 works of your choice contrasting in era and style. One must be from the following:
    • Jenni Brandon: Colored Stones
    • Nancy Galbraith: Sonata for Bassoon and Piano
    • Adolphus Hailstork: Bassoon Set
    • José Siqueira: Three Études for Bassoon and Piano
  • 2-3 contrasting orchestral excerpts

Applying to become a member of the UA bassoon studio is a three-step process:

  1. Apply to the University of Arizona (acceptance is based on academic records and history)
  2. Apply to the Fred Fox School of Music through Acceptd
  3. Schedule a live audition (you will be prompted to do so after applying to the school of music)

You are encouraged to email Prof. Olegario at molegario@email.arizona.edu with any questions or to schedule a preliminary lesson. With the professor’s permission, a video recording may be submitted if you are not able to attend a live audition.
