UA Honor Wind Quintet

The 2017 UA High School Honor Wind Quintet

Reena Debray is currently a senior at Catalina Foothills High
School where she plays flute and piccolo in her school ensembles.
She has been a member of the Tucson Philharmonic Youth
Orchestra for the last 3 years and has served as principal flutist for
the past 2 years. She is also the flutist in the University of Arizona
High School Honor Wind Quintet. She has been the principal
flutist in the Southeast Regional Orchestra the last four years and
has played in the Arizona All-State Band. She has twice earned
special citations in the Tucson Philharmonic Youth Orchestra
Scholarship Competition and has placed first and second in the
Tucson Civic Orchestra Concerto Competitions. She studies
flute and piccolo with Patricia Watrous, a flutist in the Tucson
Symphony Orchestra.
Kip Zimmerman is currently in his junior year at University
High School. Showing early interest in music, Kip began piano
lessons at seven, and several years later fell in love with the oboe.
In 2009, he started instruction with Dr. Cindy Behmer, and since
has also studied with Dr. Rebecca Mindock from the University
of South Alabama, Dr. Lindabeth Binkley of the University of
Central Michigan, and former UA professor Dr. Neil Tatman.
Kip has participated in the Arizona Regional and State Concert
Festivals, and also serves as the principal oboist of the Tucson
Philharmonia Youth Orchestra. Kip has received accolades for
his solo performances, winning the silver medal award in the
Tucson Philharmonia Scholarship Competition, twice winning the
Judges Discretionary Commendation from the Tucson Symphony
Young Artists Competition, and garnering first place in the Civic
Orchestra of Tucson’s Young Artist Competition. He has since
been invited to perform as a soloist with the Tucson Philharmonia
Youth Orchestra, The Civic Orchestra of Tucson, and the Arizona
Symphonic Winds.
Riley Taylor is currently a freshman at the University of Arizona
pursuing a BM in Music Education as well as a BM in clarinet
performance.He is currently a student of Professor Jerry Kirkbride.
He participates in the UA Wind Symphony, UA Philharmonic
Orchestra, UA Undergraduate Clarinet Quartet and the UA
Clarinet Choir. Riley graduated at the top of his class from Peoria
High School in Peoria, Arizona where he was a two-year Drum
Major of one of the top Division II/III marching bands in the
state. He served as principal chair clarinetist with the Peoria High
School Band in addition to playing baritone saxophone in the jazz
band. He participated in the Arizona Central Region band for 3
years and the Arizona All-State band for 2 years. Riley serves
as the principal assistant and clarinetist of the UA Honor Wind
Quintet.
Kevin Milligan is currently a senior at Cienega High School
in Vail, Arizona. He has been playing the bassoon for just over
four years, and has played in various ensembles in school, being
in the top ensemble for all four years of high school. Kevin
also plays outside of his school in various venues such as the
Tucson Philharmonia Youth Orchestra, where he is the principal
bassoonist. He has won several awards, including Sophomore
of the Year, and Junior of the Year of his band program, and he
recently won a Special Citation Award in the Tucson Philharmonia
Youth Orchestra. He began studying bassoon with University of
Arizona alumnus, Dr. Robert Bedont. He currently studies with
Rebecca Hagen Watson, a UA doctoral student.
Quinn Jarecki is a junior at University High School, and has been
playing horn for six years. He studied with Mary Knepper for four
years until she passed away in 2012, and now studies with Victor
Valenzuela. He is a Tucson native, and has been a member of the
Tucson Philharmonia Youth Orchestra for three years. When he
isn’t playing horn or doing schoolwork, he likes to read and listen
to music. In the future he hopes to pursue a career in materials
engineering or neuroscience, while continuing to play horn.

Quinn Jarecki is currently a sophomore at the University of Arizona, and is in his fourth year as hornist in the UA Honor Quintet. He began playing horn in fifth grade, studying with Mary Knepper for four years. He now studies with Victor Valenzuela of the Tucson Symphony Orchestra. Quinn serves as principal hornist in his fourth year in the Tucson Philharmonia Youth Orchestra, and has performed in the Arizona Regional and All State Festivals. In the summer of 2013 he was the principal hornist and a soloist in the Arizona Ambassadors of Music tour of Europe under the baton of Bill Richardson. In the summer of 2014 he served as horn teacher for the Tucson Summer Music Program. He has performed in such competitions as the Dorothy Vanek Youth Concerto Competition and the Tucson Philharmonia Scholarship Competition. When he isn’t playing horn or doing schoolwork, he enjoys reading and listening to music. In college, Quinn intends to pursue a degree in engineering physics while continuing rigorous study of the horn.
